Where can i get OLED displays
Ive been working on some projects for university and my lectuerer has suggested that i replace a LCD screen with an OLED one. The scrren does not have to be full color but it could be an option. I simply need a screen which can be used to display high visibility text. LED was an option but is to power hungry, Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Digikey carries some of the OLED displayes from OSRAM
(www.osram-os.com). Search digikey for "osram oled".

Wayne, Do the universities still put emphasis on proper spelling?

yeah yeah i know ;o) i keep forgetting to run the spell check in firefox, i noticed once the post when up. I rarely make any typo and when I do, it's usually easy to overlook them. If you want an OLED device and not just the module, I saw a video and
mp3 player at Toys R Us foir about $50 that features 1" OLED display
and claims to play video for up to 1 hour on internal batteries, 2
hours for music. Its tiny 128MB memory and no expansion slot is the
reason I passed =P
I think I'll wait for when there are pocket TV with 2.5" or larger
OLED display.

I take it they're limited in screen sizes at the moment, the way one of the professors were talking about OLEDs he said they are quite common and come in a variety of sizes, from the tiny to the large, though he might not of been referring to the commercial markets. From what I have seen the screens are no where near the same size as a modest AMLCD screen. -----------------------------------------------Reply-----------------------------------------------

.95" to 1.69" are reasonably common, 2.2" are around, and in the near future, there should be 2.6" and 3.32" panels. Don...

The biggest OLED screen I've seen was 40" diagonal, a TV screen demo at a display conference a couple of years back. Shown by, as I recall, Samsung, but this was by no means a production panel. The biggest OLEDs I've seen offered commercially so far
are still in the neighborhood of 5" diagonal and under.
One big problem facing OLED technology right now is the
fact that no matter how good it gets, performance-wise, there
has been a HUGE investment in LCD manufacturing
infrastructure over the past decade, and that will not be
lightly or easily abandoned - not while the LCD still provides
sufficiently good performance to meet market needs.
